This is the week that I want to dedicate to my wife better and improved writing. She has been critical of some of my rants in the past, but we can’t see eye to eye, where I try to see some justification. If you are reading this “my lovely spousal unit” then bear with me. This is my fourth post where I am really trying not to offend anyone. Gee, Sorry I thought blogs were suppose to offend, let the begun begin.
Biking around and between the Twin Cities is possible because of the many bridges that cross the Mississippi. Major populations always settle near water. At least historically. A river or ocean or lake draws people for so many reasons. The best places to bike ride in the world are near water. The canals of Amsterdam. The Arno River in Florence. The Chain of Lakes in Minneapolis. The Copenhagen Harbor. Barcelona Beaches.
A city like Minneapolis is unique. The infrastructure to cross a river also has been built for pedestrian traffic and bicycles. This sort of planning can be the standard in American cities for places to become livable again. But, it takes the individual effort of every resident to make a space come alive.
If today’s market correction is any indicator of future policy decisions. Todays double dip headlines have woken Sleepy and Dopey in Disneyland to a world that resembles nothing like 2001. Although bike riding residents in all these American towns, near little rivers, outside of lake places, in the flats near a branch, or up over the hill from a reservoir or ocean, are not a threat to freedom, bike riders are freedom.
As a bike rider I know that military men will say soldiers are freedom. This is I am not debating. Bike riding residents and the more there are residents bike riding then there will be less need of soldiers. These are the times we are changing as the choice to bike ride becomes normal in your part of the world. Bike ride as a resident in your town. Drive a car less in your town. The Kodo of motion is the choice of the Bike Riding Resident.
